Katniss Everdeen Hunger Games Barbie

The Hunger Games has become a fierce blockbuster, and thus Mattel has recreated the heroine Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) available for avid Barbie collectors.

In this adventurous book adaptation, every year 24 members of a ruined North America are selected to perform in the annual Hunger Games, where ultimately only one person survives. When Katniss’ much younger sister is selected for this tournament, Katniss volunteers herself as a tribute and takes her sister’s place. Thus, the journey begins to The Hunger Games, and hopefully the odds will forever be in her favor.

The Hunger Games is a survival tournament. Each member has no choice but to take their strongest skills and make them unflincingly stronger to come out alive. One of Kat’s greatest skills is her accuracy with a bow and arrow. What started out as a way to provide food for her family in the back woods of District 12 becomes her ally to fight in the controlled wilderness of The Hunger Games.

This Barbie takes the iconic and signature look of Katniss and brings it to life. With her survival gear – green cargo pants, brown boots, signature black jacket and matching shirt, and long braid – the Barbie Mattel is a perfect interpretation of the Hunger Games heroine we love.

Mary Blair Doll * Jeanne * by Maggie Richardson

Jeanne, by Maggie Richardson, is one of the prize dolls of my little collection. Jeanne was to be the very first Mary Blair doll. She is lovingly created by Mary Blair’s niece, Maggie Richardson. Ms. Richardson created and named this sweet creation after Mary’s other niece, Jeanne.

Quite a few years ago, I was pleased to find this available directly from Ms. Richardson. This was to be a limited edition of 500. However, the line was discontinued by the family. I was blessed to get my Jeanne just before she was discontinued. She is number 2 and quite likely one of only two ever created.

Jeanne is a beautiful soft doll, approximiately 12 inches tall. She was created as a tribute to Mary Blair’s gift for creating illustrations representing the purity, innocence and joys of childhood in the 1950s — the moon-faced, carefree child often seen skipping through the air.

Patty Duke Doll

Patty Duke is this wonderful doll by Horsman circa 1965 based on Patty’s television show, The Patty Duke Show.

Patty Duke Show Theme Song

Meet Cathy, who’s lived most everywhere,
From Zanzibar to Barclay Square.
But Patty’s only seen the sights
A girl can see from Brooklyn Heights
What a crazy pair!

But they’re cousins,
Identical cousins all the way.
One pair of matching bookends,
Different as night and day.

Where Cathy adores a minuet,
The Ballet Russes, and crepe suzette,
Our Patty loves to rock and roll,
A hot dog makes her lose control
What a wild duet!

Still, they’re cousins,
Identical cousins and you’ll find,
They laugh alike, they walk alike,
At times they even talk alike
You can lose your mind,
When cousins are two of a kind.

The Flying Nun Doll – Sally Field

In 1967, television welcomed Sally Field as Sister Bertrille, a novice, who because of her lightness of weight and the sisterly habit she wears, was able to catch wind and fly! This wonderful doll is the tall version; there was also a smaller version doll. Made by Hasbro.
