Inspired by Disney’s Mary Poppins, Spoonful of Sugar is a wonderful doll, standing approx. 10.5 inches tall. Mary is a full body sculpture artist piece, wearing a black velveteen coat, which is lined in tangerine silk. Her scarf is hand-crocheted, and each daisy on her hat is hand-sculpted. Her lovely updo is made of mohar; she has hand-painted eyes. She arrives with her tapestry carpet bag. Mary’s boots are hand-scuplted and delicately laced. Completing this whimsical display is Mary holding her parrot parasol, standing alongside a hand-sculpted chimney.

In the 1980s, I was taken with a beautiful Red Riding Hood doll about which I saw and read in a popular doll magazine of the day. The Red Riding Hood doll was purchased by actress Demi Moore. The doll was created by Lucia Friedericy. From the time I read that article, I researched Ms. Friedericy beautiful wax-over-porcelain dolls. Several years ago, I saw her present her dolls at an Idex show. It was my hope to one day own one of her fine creations. After 20 years of dreaming, and working, I acquired William Shakespeare, or “Shakes” as my daughter and I affectionately nicknamed him. He was perfect for my budget, my background in my love of the writings of Shakespeare and a grand fulfillment of a long-time dream to have one of Lucia’s wonderful dolls in my collection. Numbered Certificate of Authenticity is signed by Witchiepoo herself, Billie Hayes, plus Sid and Marty Krofft, creators of the show! Comes in a great gift box with a scary cool background of the evil trees and Witchiepoo’s castle so you can display her as shown. Witchiepoo, played by Billie Hayes, was determined to acquire Freddy the Flute from those “goody two-shoes” Jimmy and Pufnstuf. Fabulous big eyes and attired in carefully tailored, funky fashion reminiscent of Witchiepoo’s costume which Billie Hayes wore and includes authentic dress, vest accented by a loose button, pin, half-eaten apple and yarn, a cape, bloomers, hat, necklace and her wand, black lace-up boots. A wish come true! I finally meet one of my favorite Disney Princesses – beautiful Aurora, aka Sleeping Beauty. Isn’t she just genuine and lovely! I met her at the France Pavilion of the Epcot World Showcase where she was graciously greeting guests. Be sure to visit here again as I will be posting more about my Disney World adventures as well as a one-of-a-kind Designer Disney Princess Sleeping Beauty ornament that I made to put on eBay this weekend. Proceeds of the sale of the Christmas ornament will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

The ONLINE release of the Disney Princess Designer Dolls remaining in the collection (Rapunzel, Pocahontas, Aurora, Tiana and Jasmine) will take place Tuesday morning, October 18, 2011, for purchase at DisneyStore.com. DisneyStore.com will close and be unavailable to Guests starting at 11:15 am Eastern Time/8:15 am Pacific Time while DisneyStore.com loads the product to the website. All Guests on the website at that time will receive a site outage message, and their shopping will be interrupted. At 12 noon Eastern Time/9:00 am Pacific Time or shortly thereafter, the site will reopen, and all five of the remaining dolls will be available for purchase at that time. Guests may purchase all five dolls but will be limited to just one of each doll. All purchases must be made online as there will be no phone orders accepted. This information applies to Guests in U.S. and Canada.

Official announcement from the Disney Store regarding the future release of the Disney Princess Designer Doll Collection
As you may be aware, our new limited edition Disney Princess Designer Doll Collection has generated a good deal of excitement. While many of you love the new dolls, you have also expressed frustration in securing your favorite Princess, and brought to our attention ways we could make the process fair for all Guests. We want you to know that we read your comments on Facebook, saw your Tweets, and our Cast Members have told us what they heard from our Guests who visited our Stores.
Quantities of these dolls are very limited, and we realize that not everyone will be able to get the doll of their choice even with a new process in place. Our aim is to increase the chances of as many of our Guests as possible to obtain the dolls that they are seeking. Therefore we have updated our release plans as follows:
- We will now release for purchase all 5 remaining Disney Princess Designer Dolls: Tiana, Jasmine, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty and Pocahontas on one date in Stores on 10/17/11.
- We will then have a Disneystore.com release of all 5 Disney Princess Designer Dolls: Tiana, Jasmine, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty and Pocahontas, the following day on 10/18/11, at a time to be determined – the time will be released here, on the Buzz, continue to check back for updates.
- We will be limiting the purchase to one doll per Princess, per Purchasing Guest. This limit applies both in-store and at Disneystore.com. NOTE: Purchasing Guests are Guests present at Store age 17 and older.
- We will implement a line queue and ticketing procedure (first come, first served) in Stores on the release date and the dolls will be sold at store opening.
- Guests that are not successful in obtaining the Princess Doll of their choice at the Stores will be able to try on 10/18/11 at Disneystore.com.
